What is Sacha Inchi?

Sacha Inchi (Plukenetia volubilis), also known as the Inca peanut, is a plant native to the Amazon rainforest in Peru. It has been cultivated and used for its nutritional properties for centuries by indigenous peoples.

Sacha Inchi oil is exceptionally high in omega-3 fatty acids, primarily alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). It contains about 48-54% omega-3, which is higher than other oils. It also contains omega-6 (linoleic acid) and omega-9 (oleic acid) in balanced proportions. This high omega-3 content helps reduce inflammation, lower blood pressure, and improve heart health, plus, it is essential for brain health and cognitive function. The seeds are a rich source of protein (around 27-33%), with a complete amino acid profile. It is also a good source of vitamins A and E, which are powerful antioxidants, as well as other minerals like magnesium and calcium.

Sacha Inchi grows in the forests of the Andes, in the south of Peru. This perennial plant has been producing a star-shaped fruit (plukenetia volubilis) rich in vegetable oil for more than 3,000 years.
